IK Subsea Commence Work for Project in South America

Posted on: February 22nd, 2024 by ik_subsea_admin No Comments

The IK Subsea Team have recently commenced work on another project for a large energy company, located in South America.

The project requires a miniature ROV operated sealing clamp to fix a leakage on an X-mas tree.  This bespoke clamp, created by our in-house experts, is based on IK Scissor Clamp model and is designed for 140 bar sealing capacity.  It will be hydraulically operated and controlled, ensuring it is suitable for areas where access and space can be challenging.

IK Subsea Tender Manager, Bozidar Sevic, said, “Regardless of the size or complexity, we bring equal dedication and passion to addressing every client’s issues.”

IK-Subsea is an engineering solutions provider that specialises in repair and maintenance of pipeline and production systems. Our technology helps our clients to maximise their production efficiency across the lifetime of their assets. We bring Brilliant Engineering to life.

IK Subsea Begin Project to Deliver New Tooling Solution

In response to a call from a major Norwegian Oil & Gas operator, IK Subsea is now kicking-off a project to deliver a new tooling solution to the client. The challenge is to successfully clamp and plug a large flexible riser, 600m of which is connected between a subsea flange and a surface loading buoy. The asset is being decommissioned, and contains a % of oil and contaminants which must be sealed-off from the environment during the decommissioning activities. The project will run in Spring/ Summer 2023.

IK Subsea ran a comparative study here in their Norway facilities, investigating the forces and solutions needed to be able to clamp and seal such a large diameter flexible pipe. The study shows promising results, and a solution was drafted up and accepted by the client. This is a nice reminder of the value of running these preliminary studies with clients and how that can evolve into a deliverable for IK Subsea.

Project Manager, Huw Scott said, “The tool will be ROV operated as a 2-part solution, guided into position by a stabilisation clamp so that good alignment is maintained, whereupon the clamping tool will then be steadily closed using ROV torque tools. The solution appears simple at first, but we remain open minded to potential challenges as this solution is new and innovative. As we say: challenge accepted.”

In what is shaping up to be a hugely busy year, the business has won new projects in the UK, Norwegian, African and Brazilian subsea markets.

Work scopes include repair and maintenance using IK Compact Sealing Clamp, Coating Removal Tool and Emergency Pipeline Repair System (EPRS). All awards include project management, engineering and procurement to be delivered from IK headquarters in Stavanger, Norway.

IK Subsea Business Development Director, Roddy Brown said: “Using tried and tested solutions based on 35 years of brilliant engineering experience, this fast-paced first quarter has seen the team utilise not only the traditional equipment that IK has come to be known for, but also to provide complex problem solving solutions.
